The
last group that had their reporting for Math 1 was our group and we were
assigned with the topic on computers. The reporting was done last March 14,
2014 and March 21, 2014. On March 14, 2014 our group facilitated a game called
logo quiz and we had our creative presentation/mini-debate regarding
e-classroom vs. traditional classroom on March 21, 2014.
For
the Logo quiz we prepared 75 logos of different websites and had the class name
as much logo as possible within the time period. I was the one assigned to
compile the logos and to do the final editing for the logos that we will be
using for the quiz. The logos were obtained from the different sites in the
internet and we had to cut some parts of the logo to somehow not reveal the
name of the site to which the logo belongs. We selected the sites based on the
list that we found on the internet when we searched for keyword like
“frequently visited websites”, “top 100 websites”, and many other websites. It
was an effort intensive thing to do for us since there are 75 different logos
that we had to edit using the latest and most updated image editing software
ever, Paint (that was sarcastic, just in case you don’t get my point J). We compiled and
finished editing everything roughly about 4 am the day we’re supposed to have
the game. Unfortunately I came in about 30 minutes late because my “nap” lasted
for about 3 hours; anyways we were able to carry out our plan and facilitated
the logo quiz as a group. The Statistics Group won the game with a total score
of 63 out of 75 items, followed by Algebra group, and the Geometry group with
scores 61 and 60 respectively. Unfortunately no one from the Number Systems
group was present during the game. As for why we ended up with the logo quiz,
our group initially decided to have a Pictionary about computers and
incorporate the application of math on it. But then when we consulted Maam
Cielo about it, she suggested that we could do a logo quiz instead.
For
our creative presentation, we decided to have an informal sort of debate where
we lightly showed the pros and cons of having an e-classroom vs. traditional
classrooms. The topic was also suggested by Maam Cielo, being a teacher herself
she already had experience on both teaching methods. The topic is also relevant
in our group because of the proliferation of many websites of big institutions
in other parts of the world that extends the learning experience around the
web. Through this a Filipino student here in the Philippines can virtually
attend a lecture given by some MIT Professor even though separated miles away.
Our group decided to incorporate the debate
part in our creative presentation since there might be no time left for the
input of Maam Cielo about computers. Ate Gab was the one who finalized the
script that we will be using during the actual presentation, while we
brainstormed on the possible pros and cons of e-classrooms and traditional
setting classrooms on the perspective of both the learner and the teacher. We
also included constraints such as internet connection, incorporated the usual
college life scenario of partying as another factor why some would prefer
e-classrooms. It was also pointed out that that traditional classroom setting
exudes this more intimate student-teacher interaction compared to e-classroom
where you only get to see your teacher on your PC’s screen. We were able to
finish the presentation by working as a group though our schedule prevents us
from meeting often, I guess this is also something good about the computers and
internet it keeps us connected to one another though we are geographically
separated.
